For WIUGC’s 60th anniversary, we wanted to create a logo reflecting the uniqueness of Western geoscience. Each arm of the letter W is inspired by a resource or special geological feature from each province participating in the conference.

From left to right: British Columbia’s jade Polar Pride Boulder, Alberta’s stromatoporoids from the Leduc Formation, Saskatchewan’s potash layers, and the contact between the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and the Canadian Shield visible in Manitoba.

The colours are inspired by the University of Alberta’s green-and-gold theme and are intended to change every year along with the host university.
