4th year, Geology Honours

Hiya! I’m Andrea, and I’m your WIUGC 2027 Chair! Like many of you, I’ve loved rocks since I was little, collecting shiny gardening rocks and funky pebbles from all over. It wasn’t until I started university that I discovered my passion extended far beyond pretty stones. Geoscience weaves biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth’s history into a truly unique and diverse field of study! Through geoscience, we may understand the origin of the ground we traverse and wield what we learn to create solutions for the future. I hope to use my knowledge for mineral exploration, to discover the resources we need to power the technologies of a more sustainable tomorrow.

VICE CHAIR

4th year, Environmental Earth Sciences

Hi, my name is Vivianne and I am the Vice Chair of WIUGC 2027. I have always cared deeply for the environment and the land we live on. I come from a town very connected to the outdoors and love spending time outside. Ever since I took my first earth science class, I knew I wanted to pursue geosciences as a career. I started off my journey in geology and through the years fell in love with geomorphology. My Summer work at the Northwest Territories Geological survey has only strengthened that appreciation. I decided to switch into the environmental earth sciences program to learn the broader scope of geosciences. I hope to help bring more research and partnerships to the north.

FINANCE DIRECTOR

4th year, Geology

Hi, I am Aram. I am the director of finance for WIUGC 2027. What I enjoy most about geology is combining field observations with scientific analysis to understand ancient environments and the processes that shaped them. Through my studies and research, I've developed a particular interest in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and reservoir characterization. I hope to build a career in the energy industry, using geoscience to better understand the subsurface and help develop Earth's resources responsibly.

Hi, I’m Auveen! I’m one of the two Sponsor Relations Representatives for WIUGC 2027. I grew up in a city in the middle of nowhere, where I learned to appreciate the earth and its systems by spending a lot of time exploring the boreal forest and playing in the dirt. I love to explore the intricacies of how geology can shape ecosystems in varying ways. My path to this degree wasn’t a straightforward one, but I always knew I wanted to pursue a career where I could help build a more sustainable future.

Hi everyone! I’m your website designer for WIUGC 2027. I’ve always been interested in pre-historic animals, particularly Ice Age mammals. I started in a different stream at the UofA, but after working with Alberta Wildfire I knew I wanted to work outside. Travelling is also important to me and I love being able to see new things and go all over Canada.

Geophysics, for me, is the bridge between an abstract physical perspective and the tangible world. Being able to explore the Earth’s great structures and make sense of it through a geophysical approach allows me to look forward in time by learning from the past and ongoing present activities of the rock beneath my feet.

Hi everyone! I’m Mckenna, and I’m the Social Event Planner for WIUGC. Growing up in a small gold-mining town, I’ve always been inspired by all the groundbreaking work that goes into the geosciences! Being surrounded by so many amazing geologic features (Canadian Shield born and raised!!) it was a given that I’d be interested in seeing how the world around me works. I’ve been lucky enough to have worked for the environmental departments for two mines and can see just how important interdisciplinary collaboration is in this field.

Hihii, I’m Fatima! I’m currently in Computing Science, though Geoscience has always been a passion of mine. I love learning about the Earth, the processes that shape it, and the history in its landscapes. There’s always something new to learn or discover, and that’s what makes the field so fascinating to me.

Hii! I’m Iman, and I’m one of the Academic Event Planners for WUGIC 2027. As a biological sciences student, I’m interested in how geoscience and biology intersect, particularly in understanding the environment and its impact on living organisms. I enjoy exploring different areas of science and seeing how they come together to better understand our planet.

I absolutely love the outdoors and nature has always been a refuge for me. Being able to go outside and actually spot the things I learn about in class is so motivating and exciting. I appreciate how interdisciplinary geoscience is which gives me so many perspectives on how to study Earth. When I think of what I want to do in my future, the thought of being in geoscience makes me eager to work hard and get there.

Hello! I'm Moira, and I am one of your event planners for WIUGC 2027. I've always been interested in the beauty of rocks. As I grew I also became deeply interested in the story's rocks tell! I am currently working towards becoming an exploration geologist.

VENDOR COORDINATOR

Hi there! My name is Gracia. I have always been passionate about the environment, and have grown up hiking mountains, rock climbing and drawing. When I took my first earth science class and the first year field school, everything clicked. I was able to hike and draw what I saw, and understand the processes behind the landscape and outcrops. Choosing geoscience was easy, since I feel connected to it in many ways. My future goal is to become an environmental geologist and work in mine and well remediation/reclamation.

Hi, my name is Mackenzie, and I am the Venue Coordinator for WIUGC 2027. Outdoor activities have always been my passion, from rock climbing and hiking to landscape painting and camping. This respect and love for the Earth translated into my degree. Geology grabbed my interest and allowed me to pursue geochemistry and petrology studies. I am currently researching the Acasta Gneiss Complex and working towards my goal of a career in geoscience. Combining my love for the environment with my passion for geology is how I want to shape my future career.

Hey, I’m Antje, and I will be working as speaker relations for the conference! I’ve always been curious about the natural world, and I discovered my love of physics in my first year of university. Geophysics bridges both of these fields, so it’s the perfect program for me.
